ONE ON ONE

Invited by the Modern Theater Dance department of AHK and together with 17 first-year students Nicole made a short dance performance of 20 minutes. In this work the partner dancing is central: based on standard dances from the 1960's the dancers join in a kaleidoscopic moving and constantly changing group composition. Spatiality, shifts in patterns and the physical dialogue between two dance partners form the main guidelines. Gary Shepherd, DJ and composer, designs a soundtrack that is contemporary and at the same time timeless, pushing the rhythm of the steps through a compulsive bass. The piece came out on 12 June 2013 in the Theater School of Amsterdam and is part of Nicole's research about partner dance in preparation of the show 4: Still Life which premiered in October 2013 in Belgium.
